View Full Version : Lincoln LS or Caddy Catera?

I know the LS has gotten great reviews and the Catera bad ones but with that I find more "deals" on the Catera. Looking at older models 2000-2003 (Catera was only to 2001).

Anyone know of mods for the cars so I can find which I can the most out of? Obviously I'd look for a V8 LS not the 6.

Forget about a Catera, what a POS those things are.

That's what I've heard. I was considering it due to the lower pricing though.

They're horrendous. Buy an LS.

Catera = Buy 3 to get spare parts. Get an LS or something like a Mark........

I think the last couple years of the LS are vastly preferable to the first few years... things like build quality, electrical systems, and power all improved.

Yeah I love the looks of the LS and it's interesting it has a 3.9 V8 with 252 hp?

Anyway the reason I'm researching is it seems I might be going full time and/or going to the IT department at the hospital.

280hp after 2002...

I highly doubt I can find a 2002+ in the price range, which again is why I was also looking at the Catera. Still, you'd think with those results they might use that engine in more cars?

No.
It's a slightly-underbored version of the Jaguar 4.0. The LS and Thunderbird were the only cars to use it. The extra power came from the addition of variable cam timing... basically VTEC.

It'd be great in an AWD high-line Five Hundred/Taurus, but that'll never happen.

Yeah some reviews I read said that about the Jag. Well while doing more research too it seems they restyled it also for 2003, and the rear end looks better. It has LSD right? I'm starting to really want one!

Okay so I've gotten to that, the LS for sure. Should I make a new thread though asking about the LS such as mods, if it has LSD etc?

In other words you're saying to NOT ask about any car other then a CV here I take it.

Oh meph I'm so SORRY that I felt the people that participate at this site were knowledgable about more then JUST Crown Vics. I feel that this place is another "home" to me and thought people might be able to help here. We're still talking about Ford too so I thought it might be okay.

I've been inclined to not join forums for every interest I have, or I might have a hell of a time keeping up.

Not to mention that I've checked some of those forums as a guest and was limited in what I could find.

I'm just here to be a rude-ass.
Way to jump to conclusions! Before you go asking rather simple questions about a car on a forum (especially one not dedicated to it), why not do some easy research? The Lincoln vs Cadillac site has a good LS forum. Most, if not all, of your question will be answered in the first 5 threads or so you read. You don't even need to register. Hell, you'll probably get your damned answer faster by simply reading over there (without registering or posting) than by asking over here and seeming as if you can't figure out how to do a bit o' research.

Just tryin' to help you help yourself.

I've been there, learned alot, thought I'd ask more over here since I participate here. You've offered nothing but the link while others offered sound advice and got me off the Catera completely.

I've done research on my own as best I could and still don't know if it's LSD or not.

Sorry I didn't ask about my CV.

You seem to fail to realize that I'd treat you the same if you asked the same questions about a panther or any other vehicle.

Well no I REALIZE that you're an ass all around to almost everyone.

Also I wonder why one has to hide as not seen on the list while logged on....

Gee, Boss, can't slide one past you! :|

I do that so you can't see me coming. Dolt.

An idiot could figure it out. You post while not here? Come on.

2 members online but one showing? You don't even need an IQ to figure it out.

Oh and for the topic itself, hmmm maybe I respect opinions of those here over people I don't have a clue about.

A guy I work with bought a 2001 LS V8 for his wife a couple of years ago. He likes it but they've had a few high-dollar repairs. The latest was something with the cooling fan which I guess has a very expensive motor.

I suppose that's why you were the very first to figure it out.

Found one so far, 84,000 miles and $7900. It's a 2000 though.

The build quality on the lincolns is excellent. I don't think you can go wrong, however, as mentioned above, some repairs are pricey.

Yeah I'm looking at that too. I've just liked the LS since it came out and at this point I'm thinking the CV is too much. Although I looked at the Catera for cost savings the research I had done and from you guys have said say stay away from those.
