Was painting the ceiling at my new-to-me (built 1987) house tonight with a roller, and off comes sheets of popcorn ceiling onto my roller. This happened twice so me and my wife are just going to pull it all down, but what the heck? I just assume the popcorn had poor adhesion to the drywall as there didn't appear to be any leaks.
And here I just celebrated 1k, and I'm back to 1. Good times.
Hey, I just broke 7k and I'm back to a handful ;)
Don't mind it, just go about your business.

I have always hated popcorn ceilings. I don't like textured walls or ceilings, either.

Hey Bama,
Yeah, rolling "popcorn" ceilings that have been around awhile ain't normally a good idea, I learned the same way you just learned. And yep, ain't got nothin ta do with the ceilings integrity, its sprayed or "thrown" over the rock.
HOW ya fix its up ta you. Ya can just fix the areas that ya just cleared with the roller, or ya can do the whole ceiling over. I've done both.
I just attached ona them very flexible big ass scrapers to the pole and had at it. Ya get "under a loose corner" of the popcorn ya can usually strip off some pretty good pieces of it at a time.
Ya can rent a machine to shoot it , or ya can throw it by hand. cover the floor with plastic sheets BEFORE ya do anything, ya walk on the popcorn afta it falls ya can grind it into whatever yer floors made of-JRC

if you wanna paint it.... use an airless, if you get a good coat of paint on it, it wont come off.....
Depends on what you're painting with.
I bet if you sprayed some nice shellac-based BIN primer up there it might come off too.

I roller painted the popcorn ceilings in our old house without issue. Are you boys using too much of your manly muscles or something?

My parents are currently doing their whole kitchen over. My father called me up one day to ask if I knew what the "brown stuff" was all over the ceiling over the island.
Since I felt a definite end of the statute of limitations has passed, I told him it was yet another non-repairable item from that 8-day/7-night party my sister and I had back in the mid-1990s. Somehow a chocolate cream pie became a weapon. It took forever to clean up (to their credit, the guilty parties cleaned it up themselves) and there was some on the ceiling that we just couldn't get off. All these years later I thought we had disclosed everything about that party, and we laugh about it now. I just kinda forgot about the pie and I can't believe he never noticed it before.
